In April 2024, BFAM’s founder, Deven Goyal, decided to help support youth in Kenya by introducing them to American sports and bring them sporting equipment from America. BFAM held a successful fundraiser with over 80 people in attendance and collected over $5,000 in used sporting equipment!
While in Africa on a service mission, BFAM participated in building Menyatta’s, a traditional Maasai housing structure made from sticks and cow dung. These houses are typically built by the women of the tribe, so this was a special experience working side by side with them and learning about how they live and the issues they deal with every day.
BFAM has a vision that youth from different cultures, speaking different languages, wearing different clothes, and having different perspectives, can come together through the common language of sports and form bonds and establish mutual respect, which hopefully will allow them to better solve their disputes in the future. It’s this vision of Sports Diplomacy that had BFAM donate a variety of sports equipment to Maasai children in Kenya, teaching them new sports they never played before, and building lasting memories and hopefully life-long relationships.
During a mission to rural Kenya, BFAM was asked to provide education on branding and entrepreneurship to local Maasai women to build a branded consumer drinking water product. These women spoke no English, had very little business experience in the traditional sense, but are very successful entrepreneurs in their own right. Their journey as homemakers and providing for their children would rival any challenge the most seasoned entrepreneur has ever faced.
Join us for our upcoming events and help support our mission. From fundraisers to community gatherings, we offer a variety of opportunities to get involved and make a difference.
I
Over the last 10 years, folks at BFAM have made it a priority to support youth during their international travels. Through various trips to places like Cuba and Africa, we’ve provided aid like school supplies, toys, toiletries, and basic medicine directly to children in those areas.
